Are these boxes as bad as the reviews on Amazon make out, my parents want one for Christmas, but alot of the reviews say they freeze quite often needing a reboot and because of the freezing miss program recording. My parents are overly technical so want something easy for them to operate

Thanks

Same here. They do freeze occasionally, usually when you're trying to do too much too quickly ie: record 2 channels and delete a recording all at the same time. This usually only happens when the hdd gets below 20% free space.Otherwise it very very rarely freezes, although when the hdd is below 10% it forgets to record stuff, which is very annoying.Even so it still freezes a lot less than other pvrs and it is otherwise fantastic, with a brilliant picture that's far better than any other freeview tuner I've seen.My in-laws have had 2 other pvrs and both have been way more trouble than our Humax and the picture's been dire by comparison.Personally I wouldn't buy any other make.

Would it be better to stump up the bit extra and get the 320GB and are they easy to install, I wont be there to help my folks set it up ?

Well 160gig has been plenty for me - it only fills up when I forget to delete films I recorded a year ago. YMMV.

And yes, it's trivial to set up - aerial, SCART, switch on - think it autotunes on startup.
