I have recently purchased a panasoniv 32lcd with built in freeview and a panasonic dvd harddrive with freview, connected to the tv with qed hdmi cable. The question his, which is the best way to view freeview in terms of picture quality ie through the tv alone or through the dvd player.

Through TV. This allows you the opotion of recording one channel (DVD) while watching another (TV).

I tried both methods and think that the TV tuner (LXD700) was marginally better than my DVD recorder (EX 77)

Well, have a look at them both and watch the one with the best picture. If I'm watching TV live I usually watch my built in TV Freeview tuner as the picture is better than my Topfield 5800 PVR. On the other hand, if I'm watching football or something I might likely want to pause / rewind, I'll watch on the PVR so I can do this.

Try them both and see which one you prefer.

The difference, if any, will be down to the different upscaling chips in the TV and the DVD/PVR
