How to install loudspeakers to an audio system

If you’re reading this, you’re probably looking to improve the sound quality. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by replacing your normal speakers with loudspeakers. As the name suggests, a loudspeaker significantly increases the sound and enhances the audio quality. Connecting these to your sound system is a little tricky as you need to take care of impedance and power handling capacity of the speakers. Here is how you can easily install your loudspeakers to an audio system.

Step 1
Impedance Matching
You need the match the impedance for the loudspeaker and the amplifier. The impedance of the speaker is marked at the back of it. For example, if your speaker’s impedance is 8 ohm, the amplifier should match this value.

Step 2
Power Matching

To match the power handling capacity of the speaker, use an amplifier whose power falls in between the power marked on the loudspeaker and twice of it. For example, if the loudspeaker’s power is 350 Watts, the amplifier should be anywhere between 350-700 Watts.

Step 3 Other Connection Progress forward to connect other devices to your amplifier first such as a mixer.

Step 4
Determine the type of speaker
Determine the type of your loudspeaker by checking on the back of it whether it supports an AC connection. Also, determine how you wish to connect the speakers - in a series connection or a parallel one.

Step 5
Loudspeaker Connections
Here is how to connect the loudspeaker to the amplifier.
[*] Connect one end of the cable to the output channel 1 of the amplifier.

[*] Connect the other end of the cable to the input channel 1 of the loudspeaker.
[*] Similarly. Progress forward to make connections for channel 2.

There you go, your loudspeaker is now successfully matched and installed in your sound system. Note that you should keep the power supply off while making the connections.
