The question: Best stereo audio signal for music played from either my laptop or Pana bd35 with Dac and Amp in the loop somewhere

I think the answer is digital optical from the CDP to the Dac ( CDP already linked to amp) - this means that the external dac does the job which the internal dac in the CDP is currently doing

Then laptop usb to Dac and 2 x RCA from Dac to Amp ( CD ) 2 X RCA

Is this correcto .....

Amp is the Denon 2309 AVR , speakers are bi amped B and W 685's

Yeap. But have a play. You don't mention which DAC you have but the one in your CDP may be better. In which case connect the analogue outputs from your CDP directly to the amp.

Also, using USB may possibly create a ground loop. If it does, try to use the optical out from your laptop to the DAC. This will electronically isolate the laptop from the rest of the system.

The optical out on laptops tend to be accessed via the headphone minijack. If your laptop doesn't support optical out (any many don't) try a USB to optical adaptor.

Hope this helps.

PJ cheers for that ,

But what;s the point of a Dac in your first scenario - I am already routing my CDP to avr amp

BTW I'm using the Beresford 7520 with 4562 op amps upgrade and the Wolfson 817 ish thingy ! Is that Dac better than the one in the CDP Pana bd 35.

Remember me I had the ground loop buzzing issues a few weeks ago !

Still not totally removed the problem but I'm delieriously happy with what I'm getting out of the Dac from my PC DAC Stereo amp in work and want to see if I get something similar out of my laptop dac avr at home

Errr. I was suggesting that you played around to see if the DAC or the CDP DAC produced a better performance.

I'm not familiar with the CDP you mention. Others may be but I'd be surprised if it was better than your Beresford. Try the playing around suggested above and report back?

Apologies. I didn't notice who had posted the thread.....just the problem.

What have you tried to resolve the issue? Have you tried the USB to optical adaptor? It should sort out the problems you've described.

I'll do that .... your hunch is mine, simply on the basis of experience with the pc/laptop streaming spotify etc. I do have an excellent sound card in my PC and wonder if this is a reason why the dac makes such good music out of it ?

But the Pana is also my source for video. So I have a technical question.

Currently I run an HDMI from the Pana BD 35 to the AVR and a separate HDMI from amp to TV ( the avr does as all the sonic and video magic )

But if I want to improve the stereo signal from the pana by using the dac as a source for the avr amp , do I need to disable anything in the current set up ? Or as I said in previous thread is it a simple matter of digital optical from source to dac and then into the amp ?

What will happen to the 5.1 sound when I watch dvd's from the pana ?

On the ground noise - it never was a really significant problem and merely annoyed me when using the Iaptop at home and then only with mains supply not battery .It's still there on a PC system in work but nothing like as irritating and that's with mains .However I keep it under review and probably need a dedicated time to compare and fiddle before a complete resloution.

I did solve the " cross talk " interference between channels by realising that as soon as a particular input was enaged there was no cross talk
