i was wondering which would be the best way to go with a new set up which will be 50/50 music/movies.

would an onkyo 875 with a marantz cd6002 sound as good musically as say a marantz amp pm7001 plus cd6002 with an onkyo 606 for movies.

also i have a set of m.s mezzos(1s for rears,a centre and floorstanders) for speakers, could i run the front floorstanders from the amp for music and from the onkyo for movies if the latter set up was the best way to go.

i hope this makes sense

p.s.can anyone recommend a good sub for around 300 notes

It makes sense, but you couldn't do that with the 606 - for this you need an amp with preouts, which the 606 does not have. The 875 does, but then that's starting to get expensive, bulky, and return-diminishing.

If you don't need video upscaling or the newer high-def sound formats, you could investigate older receivers from any number of makers to add surround to a good stereo amp for peanuts (50 quid for a Yamaha DSP-AX620, for example), or someone here may be able to suggest a new receiver in the 606's ballpark which does have preouts.
