Hi, i have recently upgraded my tv to a 55" Panasonic txl55dt65b. I have a Marantz sr6003, sky hd box, panasonic blur ray and an arcam 73 cd player. My speakers are Kef iq50's as my front pair, canton cd50 centre speaker and two cd100's as my rears. My sub is a Rel T2. Accoustically I feel my system is lacking. I am unsure if my speakers need upgrading or my amp. It has been suggested that I replace my Canton speakers with B & W 683 or 684's. Or Kef Q500 or Q700's plus the relevant centres. These would replace the cantons. I love watching movies and also listening to cd's. My main musical taste is classic rock, though I listen to most types. Can anyone suggest a way to go, new speakers or an amp? I want something that will let me hear greater details than before.

Demo speakers with AV receivers as a combination. B&W, Kef and Monitor Audio are all well respected British brands. There are many others; check a few reviews on this site in your budget range to get an idea. Also speak to your dealer regarding your requirements. My dealer gave me excellent advice, and I ended up buying what he recommended, albeit with a different AV receiver than his suggested one.

I agree with Ben; your fronts and centre at least should be of the same brand for better integration.

Thanks for replying Ben,

Any suggestions on speaker brands or just arrange demos of what a shop has to offer?

I guess find out which specialist shops are within striking distance of where you live and see what there is to demo. I wouldn't personally buy b&w or monitor audio for my main system as I'd find them tiring in the long term. They may be what you want so do demo them, but you may be rewarded if you cast your net a little wider. I use ATC speakers.
