Home cinema plans update

We selected the sofas yesterday. The seating arrangement means we won't have to move the door at all! *dance4*

How much should it cost to build a false ceiling / pelmet ceiling along the edges?

I've asked for some quotes. One builder has quoted a ridiculous £1800! *shok*

My local electrician whom I trust has agreed to do the electrical work (even though the house is 51 miles away) and help me set the home cinema up.

Looks like you are getting a leg on with the HC BB. It is so hard to know who to trust and what quotes are accurate and which ones are just the companies throwing a huge nuber out there hoping you just believe them and say yes.

I guess I should have looked at the link to Dolby with the Atmos suggestions but I'm typing no so I'll look after*dash1* but I'm wondering why the .2's are so close to the walls? I would have expected they be a little more central with a couple oh meters between them.

Are all you surround ceiling mounted? I think that's what you were hoping for?

That's great the door doesn't need moving. I love is when that happens. One less cost to worry about I guess.

Must admit, having looked at the Atmos guidelines that was my impression as well, the ceiling speakers should be closer to the middle of the ceiling than they are now (but not in the middle of the ceiling obviously).

It's going to be a far easier install if the speakers are going into the false ceiling. I'll have to get professionals in if I want to mount the atmos speakers more towards the middle into the actual ceiling. With pivoting speakers, I can direct them towards the listener. Atmos also works with speakers bouncing sound off the wall, so I'm sure this will work well.

I have officially sold my entire system, including KRP 500A and buttkicker.

I'll look to buy Samsung H7000 (55 or 60 inches) nearer to Christmas and maybe get a buttkicker wireless kit next year if needed (although I suspect it won't work effectively due to the modular design of my sofa.)

I won't be watching movies on TV anymore so Samsung will be absolutely fine for TV programmes.

So I've chosen thick curtains in cotton/linen mix, fabric sofas (Fama Arianne and Romeo) and an 8' X 6' rug hand made from wool (importing it direct from Pakistan). This should massively help with room acoustics.

Once set up, I'll see if any more treatment is needed.

Design for the cabinet getting ready 🙂 :

Sire gremlins again.....The picture appears shrunk from the sides, and not maintaining its aspect ratio! *dash1*

Thanks Michael. My brother is a graphic designer. He works on 3D Max and has promised to do the drawings on it. I'll let you know if I need your help. Your offer is much appreciated. 🙂

It's all getting a little closer BB. If you don'y intend to watch movies on your TV anymore why would you get rid of the KPR? I'm not saying the replacement is a lesser spec as I would hope a newer model TV would out perform a Kuro. Is it just you wanted a bigger size for your viewing distance?

The buyers of my house don't want to disturb the home cinema setup so paid a good price for my Kuro. No worries, I've bought gel's 1-year old Panasonic 50VT65 for a little more with 4 years John Lewis warranty instead. 🙂

Enjoy BB, you got a great TV. *drinks*. The lady when I transferred the warranty said about how good the TV was. *smile*

Ah so the people buying your current house know what they are getting then. Well I guess you have now got a bigger TV with I guess a better picture and they buy a new home with an awesome TV already in it. Bargin

I'd buy a house if it came with a Kuro. Mainly because I'd have 2 then hehe.

Ah I though what you bought from gel was 60", my bad.

Will you be making provisions for a bigger TV in the future. I know you will have the projetor but I imagine you will watch the TV more than the projector and I think you will be sat furthere away than I am from my TV (a little over 2m) Of course watching a match or something of the like will go up on the projector I'm sure.
