Need a new receiver which has 12v triggers to turn on external amps, so that rules out Onkyo. Been looking at the Marantz SR7002 or 8002. The review of the 7002 in the Feb mag says that it "can upconvert any video signal to HDMI". Is this up conversion different to the scaling that the Onkyo and other can do to upscale any signal to 1080p. If so what are the practical difference and what difference would it make to viewing, say, non HD TV via a projector? Is it something to be concerened about? advice appreciated.

i think the upconverting is just to enable you to have one HDMI to your monitor. i.e. it changes inputs like coax vid and s-video to HDMI, not making the resolution higher.
