Hi All,

I am starting to put together a surround system for my new (first) house! I've got a pair of B&W 805s for the front, B&W HTM4S for the centre and decided on the Rotel RSX-1550 as the AV amp. Please advice on suitable rear speakers. Should I stick to B&W rear speakers or does it not matter. My sofa will be right against the wall so would like small speakers for the rears??

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Hi Baadaar

Did you buy any of these components yet? Not hat there's anything wrong with them, but it certainly helps create a cohesive sound field if you stick to the same manufacturer/model of speakers for surround sound.

A few questions... Will this set up double as a music and home cinema cinema system? What sort of budget are you working to overall? What size room will all these components be used in? It's worth checking the recommended midrange home cinema set up on this very website for ideas. You can't go far wrong there...

Hi Strapped for cash,

Yes I have already got these componants, I was thinking of B&Ws too but wasn't sure which ones, not really thought about budget, I guess 300-400 as they are only effect speakers.

I will be using this for both music and home cinema which is why I chose the Rotel, as I thought it was better musically than some of the others. room is 3x6m but AV equipment will be across the room rather than along.

Hi,

Why not try B&W 685 they are great speakers and I use them as part of the B&W 685 Theatre Package but with the B&W

ASW 610 subwoofer with my Onkyo 905. They also sound great with my Arcam amp.

Thanks for the suggestion but the room is quite narrow and long and as the sound system will be going across, I think the B&W 685 or even 686 might be too big with the 805s' as the front.

I really like the size of the B&W M1's can anyone advise if these are any good for surrounds? or should I look at something like the B&W DS3's, all advise greatfully received.
