Hi experts,

I own a Yamaha RX-479 (2x105W) receiver and 2 floorstanding KEF Q5's.

I want to upgrade my system.

Would the Marantz PM 6003 (2x45W) be an upgrade or do I need an amp with more power?

Please help me with your suggestion on brand and type.

kind regards DaliNova

first try this:

treble :-1,5

loudness button :-1,5

bass: 0

and see how does it sound.I dont think the pm6003 will be much of an improvement

My story:

1-AX-497sounded very bright -->sent it back

2-PM4001 horrible amp--> sent it back

3-AX-397 Happy with it (learned to use the loudness button...)

Hi, am interested in what others may add but my experience was as follows:

Auditioned and decided upon IQ7s, I think these are roughly equivalent to the earlier Q5s. Decided on a midrange(ish) Yamaha AV amp but was (seriously) underwhelmed when auditioned with the IQ7s. Shop advised more power to drive the speakers, this was provided by a Denon AVR-4306 and the speakers were back to sounding as good as when I'd originally auditioned them.

I was definitely of the mindset that 'an amp is an amp' prior to this, my advice would be to audition any new equipment, and maybe you have some substantial improvement to be found from more power? I realise my experience was with AVRs, and maybe a dedicated stereo receiver is the way to go although so far I haven't heard this when auditioning stereo amps, this is somehow a shame as I always want 'more' 🙂

cheers, Leadears

What sort of budget do you have?

@ ear, thanks for the info about the loudness, treble and bass. I will try this this settings this week and will inform you if this is the tweaking I look for! 🙂

My story so far:

1. Started with Bose 123, the most terrible buy ever, sounded very "nosey"

2. With half of the costs of the Bose system a major improvement with the RX-497 and KEF Q5. Since then I feel the 'need' to improve my set once again. ;-)

@ plastic penguin,

My max budget is in EURO app. 500,00

Cambridge Audio 550A | Marantz 7003 | NAD C326BEE | DENON PMA-710AE UK SOUND TUNED

Or a receiver the new CA Topaz SR10??!!

Hi Ear, THNX! The Loudness button gives an improvement!

My settings: Loudness +1,5, and these are my settings for Bass +1 and Treble +3!

What do you think about those last two. I have carpet and courtains as surface so this sounded like more detail.

thnx , Dalinova

Definitely Creek Evo (MKI version) or Roksan Kandy MKIII. They will certainly sound top-notch with Kefs.

my speakers have a lot of detail so I reduced a bit on the treble, but major improvemnente was taking the loudness to -1,5 because that loundess button reduces mids.found that like that you can get the volume knob up and not cause brightness to increase and it doesn't get harsh like that. it just made me happy with the amp. bass is good and controled with the yamaha amps. I now like it
