Apparently there are lots of fake headphones out there, with Audio Technica, Shure, Sony, Sennheiser and Bose being particularly vulnerable. However, even Bang & Olufsens have been faked. Here is a super website to check before you buy headphones over the internet. Don't think that this is an ebay problem. Fakes have been sold via Amazon as well.

Here is an example of the detail you need to look for with some Senn CX300s

Hi Clare,

Very useful article, thanks. I'm looking to buy some Klipsch X5's or X10's and have found some on Ebay at good prices but now I'm not so sure they are geniune. Have you heard of any fake Klipsch headphones coming on to the market at all?

Regards

Shayn

There will be fakes. The best idea for ebay is to buy off a trader who publishes an address and check it by googling to see if there is an entry in Yellow Pages or similar. That way you are more likely to have found a legitimate dealer. Feedback is no guarantee.
