Got my SCLX82 today! [:D][:D].....what a beast! I'm in the process of trying to hok up my Sky+ HD box via HDMI and with a coaxial for DD sound. I've turned off the Kuro Link and connected my HDMI to input 1 and my coaxial lead to input 1 (which is lebelled 'DVD'). I've got picture and sound but the sound often defaults to Stereo or PL11 Movie even on DD material. If I use the 'SigSel' button and cycle through all the choices then I still don't get DD.

I'm also using HDMI output 1 (Kuro Link) and I can't seem to select just HDMI 1 output which for a few seconds gives me the surround choice that I want, it seems to default to HDMI All Output for some reason, how do I change this??

Thanx

Have you gone into the input settings in the on screen menu? Check that the right input is being assigned for audio? The sigsel button should be set to digital? There seems to be a few gremlins with setting up the amp to sky hd boxes have a search on the forums to see how people got sorted. Some people say that they switched off the amp then on again and all was good. Plugging and unplugging has worked too. Checked the sky box audio output??

Thanks John, yeah, I've swtched sigsel to digital and I ( think) I've assigned theSky Box correctly. I have it into HDMI input 1 and the coaxial in to input 1.....which is marked for 'dvd' on the rear of the amp, how do I assign the HDMI input to marry it up with the corresponding coaxial input?? or have I already done this as I'm getting both sound and vision?

Think I'll try unplugging it and switching on again...

The mcacc does set the speaker distances when setting up. Just let it do its thing..... People say that you should leave the amp switched on for a few hours. Like any audio product it will need "run in" There is an argument that you should measure the speaker distances physically. This wont take reflective surfaces like hard floors and windows into account though. I just let the mcacc run. There was a really good thread posted by another user about how to use the mcacc by switching between the different presets and thus fine tuning the settings as each setting is time limited. Need to find it. Think it was on this forum??

grdunn123:Does the MCACC set the speaker distances etc or do I have to do that myself? Does the amp need any running in period?

Hi,

I have the LX72 and the MCACC does all the work for you, run this first then save the settings to the other MCACC numbered 1-3, 1 being the first setup you have just done.

You can then tweak the settings and if you make a mistake or do not like the results just copy the MCACC 2 or 3 back to MCACC 1.

I found this the most useful information for MCAAC set up.

1) Set Reciever to MCAAC preset 1 (M1). Now Run Auto MCAAC with
mic in you listening position (I taped the mic to the top of a two foot
long shoe horn, and stuck the shoe horn inbetween the couch cushions,
so the mic is right where my ears are during listening).

2) Go into Manual Sp Setup and change the SP settings if neccessary(crossover to 100hz for me and speakers to small)

3) Now re-run Auto MCAAC but select custom, and then select Keep SP settings.

4) Now you have an Auto MCAAC calibration saved to M1 (....note: you
must select which preset you want Auto MCAAC to save calibration data to
before you enter the audio setup menu.) Now go into Data Management--------> Data Copy and copy M1's data to M2 and also to M3. Now you have carbon copies of this calibration in M1-M3.

5) Now go into Manual MCAAC--->EQ Professional------>Reverb Measurement and get a reading on the the frequency response characteristics of your room. Be sure to select EQ OFF(standing waves not controlled for via MCAAC fliters) in the Reverb Measurement menu because
you don't want the standing wave adjustements (EQ on) to be factored in
to the room reverb measurments. Also make sure you haven't moved the
mic.

6) After test tones are done, go into Manual MCAAC--->EQ Professional------>Reverb View ,
and you can analyze the frequency response of individual channels at
various frequencies. Based upon that data, you would select the
appropriate capture delay time for MCAAC to capture data during for the
upcoming EQ calibration.

Change that time frame under Manual MCAAC--->EQ Professional------>Advanced EQ Setup to whatever you decide is the appropriate capture delay time ....(Pioneer recommends 30-50 ms,
but they encourage you to analyze the data under reverb view first and
refer to the advanced MCAAc software manual for analysis purposes).
Note: the default capture delay time is than 80-160 ms.

7) Change to MCAAC preset 2 (M2) before you run the new advanced EQ calibration with the new capture time. Go under Manual MCAAC--->EQ Professional------>Advanced EQ Setup to
start the advanced EQ calibration, and MCAAC should make a more
accurate calibration since it will now capture sonic information sooner
after the speakers output sound, and get a read on what the frequency
response is of the speakers themselves, and not the speakers and all the
reverb which accumulates as time passes. (Default capture time is
80-160 ms and thus collects more reverb and less true speaker reading)

Now you should have an accurate calibration. Also, now you can easily
compare the Auto MCAAC EQ effects that are stored in M1 with the
advanced EQ effects in M2 while listening to content with a simple
button press on the remote. You could also juice the base a few db in
M3, and also compare running the base a bit hot to a flat calibration
that you have in M1 and M2.

This is one amazing amp guys! Haven't had time to follow all the MCACC setup instructions from v1c yet, but.....have run the auto setup and it sounds wonderful! Watching Aliens in The Attic on Sky HD right now with the kids and they keep turning round to see whats going on behind with all the rear fx!

It's a massive step up from the Onkyo 806, the sound is steered around all the speakers much more effectively so that you really feel like you're in the middle of what you're watching and that's just with 5.1 DD!

The Onkyo is 'loud' and a little brash compared to the Pioneer which is much more refined with much better control over all the speakers.

Gonna watch a couple of Disney BD's tomorrow (Up and Toy Story) and see if I can crank it up a little!
