Hi Guys

I have been thinking of going to surround sound AIO (probably the panny sc bt 205 so that it compliments my px 80b)

Question is this, my room is rectangular 6x4 m, telly is on one long wall, the sofa is on the opposite wall so I will have to put the rear speakers at side of sofa against the wall, will I get benefit of surround sound or should I just go for something with front and centre speakers

Thanks in advance for any opinions

Andy

I would think so personally - assuming the rears are either side of the sofa, it's not quite ideal with the speakers like that, but it's not too bad and will be far more immersive than a 2.1 system with your movies.

I'd mount the surround speakers in the corners, facing inwards. Experiment with the angle, but the key IMO will be to get them high so that the (surround) sound isn't too 'in your face'. You're trying to create an ambience. I agree with the Prof - it's definitely worth doing.

The BT205 has floorstanding speakers though.

Perhaps look at a unit which has regular speakers which can be wall mounted though - possibly a separates system which will more than likely outperform Panasonic's all-in-one unit, but adds to the complexity of the setup. It depends really how much you're after just the convenience factor of an all-in-one which is understandable. From what I've read, the BT205 seems to be very well regarded.
