I have just bought my first home cinema kit, AV, Yamaha z7,Speakers, m&k s150's & m&k ss150's , m&k mx350 sub.

The sub I bought secondhand,

The problem I have got is That I cannot get the sub to work, You can hear it a little when turning the power on and also when doing auto set up for the speakers with the mic.

Now I dont know if it is something that I am doing wrong as I have never had an av before and not really know what I am doing or weather it is a fault with the sub. I contacted the person I bought the sub from and he said

"have you set your reciver up properly ie, with a sub woofer as it will not send a signal to the sub if it has not been set up correctly, that is all i can think it is as the sub was working perfectly in my system"

could this be the case as I am still not to sure on how to set it up properly.

Any help would be appericated

If you plug the sub cable into the sub (with it switched on of course), and touch the centre pin of the cable at the other end, do you hear anything from the sub? You may need to turn it up to at least half way to hear anything - don't worry, you won't blow anything

Congratulations on your new system , its a great set up by the way

Setting up a sub can be frustrating , many users here have had problems which are eventually resolved

I see David has replied , follow his advice he is a M&K expert and will sort you out I'm sure

Did you buy the S-150 ss-!50 from a dealer?

If so I would suggest contacting them as to integration of the speakers and the sub.

Feedback how you get on then you can look at the receiver setup.

Then it works ok and it's definitely a set up issue......

If you hear it in the auto set up, I can't see what the problem is. Do you not hear it when you pay music too? Are the speaker settings set to small? Is the "bass output" set to "sub", or to "both"? When it's set to both I find the bass lightweight.

Check speaker setup on the Z7

All speakers should be set as small

Crossover should be set at 80hz

make sure Main + sub is selected

Also double check you have plugged the sub into the correct output on the amp

set the Sub xover to 120hz initally, this can be trimmed towards 80 hz later

also make sure you dont have the direct button switched on in front of the amp as this will bypass the sub

Try that and see how you get on

jokerpaulonline:Hi lesmor, I see you have the same system, how long you had it? and I take it you are happy with it, did you have any problems when you first got it? Hi again

The Z7 is great only bettered by the Z11 INHO

I bought the speakers to beat the VAT increase and due to my dedicated room having a makeover which is not yet finished I'm ashamed to say they are still in there boxes

Rest assured you have made a good choice with the M&K's

Right, I think I know what the problem is, and that is me
emotion-10.gif
As I said this is my very first home cinema set up. and still trying to work out what I am supposed to be doing

I dont hear the sub when playing music either, The only thing I have managed to do is run the auto speaker set up with the mic,

are the speakers set to small? make sure Main + sub is selected

not got that far yet, probably why it not working.

Is there any instructions for begginers, the dummy guide to home cinema

Hi

Auto setup should have recognised the S-150's SS-150 as Small but is not foolproof , but this can be confirmed on the speaker setup menu

I initally had some problems with autosetup on a Z7 I had on dem

I would suggest doing a system reset and starting again by setting up manually, if you want to reset to factory defaults pull down the front flap

Follow instructions on page 126 of the manual

Have you tried the amp test tone to make sure speakers are assigned to the right channels, does the test tone work from the sub?

I managed to get the sub working ok now, I found my way into the options to change the settings.

It all working ok now, but still not sound quite there yet.

It now needs fine tuning, What are the best settings to start of with?

Good news, care to share which settings were wrong?

If you still have the auto settings it could be argued those are the best

Do you have a dedicated room to listen at reference level , also do you have a SPL meter?
