Hi can anybody help please I have a Sony BDP S570 Blu Ray Player and an Onkyo TX-SR875 amp. Everythings connected with HDMI and optical cables but i can't get the amp to show that Dolby True HD or DTS HD Master is showing on the display, it only ever says Dolby Digital for features that have HD sound. Any ideas please?

You don't need the optical cable, just the HDMI cable. Once you've got the settings set correctly to output the sound via HDMI, you should then get the HD audio soundtracks.

If you're not sure on the settings, post back and we'll see if we can guide you through it.

The professor is right, I have an 875 and the HD audio works fine with a single HDMI cable (in fact I don't think it could work with an optical cable). Some blu-rays do not have the HD audio soundtrack as the default, so watch out for that gotcha too.

Thank you both for your replys, i've finally done it.

I was changing every setting going on the Blu Ray player before my post trying to get it to work, and little did i know it was one setting on the amp that was needed!
You taught me something new as well because i thought it was optical/coaxial for everything 'surround' - but clearly not.

Thanks again

Glad to be of assistance. My Humax Freesat PVR also just needs an HDMI cable. The only optical cable I have is from the TV to the amp for when I listen to freeview and some newer systems can use the audio return in the HDMI cable so you don't even need that.
