Hi there,

We've bought Q Acoustics 2000 speakers and wall brackets. Went to buy screws - 8x40mm - recommended in blurb, but DIY shop hasn't got any. Is there an alternative? Any advice gratefully received.

thanks,

Hi jazzy, welcome to the forum.

I'm not a great DIY' er myself but if it talks about 8x40 in the blurb I surprised they didn't actually come with the brackets.

I guess this is just a guide and will depend on exactly what you are trying to fix the brackets to (solid wall, plasterboard etc).

The 8 figure is diameter of the screw so this is probably the maximum size the bracket will take. If you can find 6x40 they should be OK.

Try a B&Q if you have one nearby (there has to be at least one in Brizzle). They could advise what to use depending on what they are to be fitted to.

Thanks Alears.

We'll go back to B&Q with the brackets and seek advice from them! Does the size also depend on the weight of the speakers or is it mainly about the wall?

If the bracket was designed to be used with this speaker then I wouldn't worry about the weight as it cannot be that heavy or they wouldn't suggest wall mounting it in the first place. You need to be more concerned with the mounting to the wall. Find out what type of wall it is first then B&Q can advise best fitments especially if you can take a bracket along with you.
