Hi All,

I'm sure this gets asked a lot, and i have been reading up, but all the options and specs are bewildering, so i'm looking for advice from those in the know.

Up untill recently my home theater system consisted of an onkyo tx-sr576 and an old sony 6.1 surround system.

For what it cost me, it was great, but earlier this year i decided an updrade was in order and ordered a Jamo s606 5.0 speaker set, which is a big improvement, but it didn't come with a subwoofer.

Up untill now i've been using the sub from the old sony system, which whilst it works, doesn't leave me satisfied (i guess the only way to describe the experience).

so here's the easy bit.. i am not going audiophile here i'm looking for something that will be an improvement over my existing sub which i think is around 80w and only goes down to 40hz, if i can get something that makes my guch tingle, then all the better..

Here's the difficault part. i have very little budget. less than $200 i would say and the cheaper the better. and the last issue is my room size wich is 6 meters by 4 meters and it opens into a kitchen / hallway/ staircase... So Big i guess.

i'm not adverse to DIY options, but not sure it's worth it for my budget, i could maybe stretch it to 200 for driver and amp, as i have plenty of building materials at home..

any thoughts?

$200 should buy you a modest used powered sub. Look on eBay, your local papers, pawn shops even.

If you're in the US you can get some good deals on new less than perfect (usually scratched cases or bent grilles) Polk subs on Polk's eBay page.

Most powered subwoofer kits cost a lot more than $200 I'm afraid. I know, I looked.
