Hi. I know this isn't too much to do do with a/v, but I really need help connecting my PS3 to my wireless router. I've had the thing about 3 months now, and it IS a part of my set-up with a new TV and stand and this is the last part of getting everything working together. It detects my router (Sky Netgear), but after entering all the security codes and passwords I could find, it always comes back with something like 'Finding IP address - timed out'. What I need is to be treated like a complete idiot and guided through the whole setup process step-by-step, or directed to a website which spells everything out in a very. clear. slow. easy. to. understand. way. Thanks for any help. Oh, Merry Christmas, by the way!

I found the easiest thing to do is go onto youtube. Loads of people post tutorials. Try a search with ps3,sky netgear and wireless this should do the trick.

I have the same problem every time i tried to conenct it said "Timed Out", i was told it might be due to the routers firewall seeing the PS3 as a media hub and a threat. I tried turning off the firewall in my router and it worked perfectly first time. I dont like doing this due to security concerns but couldnt get it to work any other way.

Hi,

You may have an option within the firewall to allow access now that you've got it connected? You can then restart the firewall and it will 'see' the PS3 as safe.

Cheers,

Have you told your router to allow the PS3 to connect? If not, then assuming security has been set up properly on the router, you probably need to specify the PS3 as an allowed device, and enter its IP address.

I connected my PS3 to my wireless router (Netgear) without any problems once I did this, but it took ages before it would allow my Xbox 360 to connect - which I eventually traced down to using the wrong password in the wrong place in the 360 setup!

Hi Barkerwoo,

Just had the same problem (same error message also) with my new PS3 and sky netgear router - in my case it turned out that I entered the wireless key wrong (lowercase instead of uppercase, doh!). If you haven't changed any settings on the router (I hadn't - still default) then maybe this is the problem.

Thanks for all the advice, folks. I eventually gave up and got an ethernet cable (I would have prefered wireless) and it connected in about 3 seconds without having to enter any codes/passwords or anything else - I wish I'd have done this 3 months ago when I bought my machine. The only slight thing is that I now have to have it running through my lounge and hallway to the router, but all I do is plug it in while I'm online and unplug it when I'm done - 1 minute job. Thanks again for the guidance. Happy new year!
