I am considering something on the lines of the above to connect to my Pioneer LX72, I have a NAS box already and want to stream my music in FLAC format.

I currently stream the FLAC files direct to the LX72 but the menu for this is not the best.

Any ideas?

IMHO streamers from those suppliers wouldn't show their merit via an AV Reciver. A Squeezebox Touch would be fine.

I would go Linn Sneaky (but I would say that as I own a DS). Only you can decide if the improvement is worth the money.

Are you streaming to an AV system? If you are, as far as music goes, there's the major limitation.

Thanks for the reply.

How do you control the DS?

Hi Michael

I control my Majik DS with Kinsky desktop on my windows laptop. It is free from Linn and I think is about to be upgraded. I also use the Chorus app (£10) on ipod touch. It can also be controlled with HP IPAQ and Nokia etc

The DS needs to be "hard wired" to the NAS - in case that's an issue. A good dealer will do it for you in the price.

The Sneaky (£799) has a very reasonable integrated amp (20w) but has no inputs for sources.

Good info can be found : Linn website, linn forums, Linn dealers and Ripcaster.

If there's anything else I can help with, please shout.

The problem I have is not streaming to my receiver, but the fact that the Pioneer menu is not the best, it is a little clunky and slow.

I want a means of streaming to the receiver with something that can offer a useable menu system.

Streaming direct to the receiver does cut out another box and cable but without a friendly menu system it is hard work.

If I have to buy another box then so be it.

If you are refering to sound quality, this is not an issue.

Thanks for this.

I am thinking of running some CAT5e cable from the loft down to the living room, but at the moment everything is wireless, having said that using the ethernet bridge / ethernet convertor the streaming is excellent from my router to the receiver.

I could plug the DS into the bridge for now.

The Pioneer and the Apex speakers are very good for music as well as movies, so the sneaky could fit in very well.

Networks/ethernet bridges and the like, aren't what I do well, so can't advise - but I've found Ripcaster very helpful.

Good luck, and report back on what you end up doing.

Can you spring for an iPad? Both Sonos and Squeezebox have great apps for the iPad to control their streamers (ZP90/Touch respectively)

If you've got an Android phone, try Skifta. Its free and will act as a control point between a NAS and the Pioneer but with a way better UI. There's really no need to shell out for a high end music server, it sounds like you can already rip in a format that works for you, so you'd be better just getting something like an Iomega ix series or Netgear ReadyNAS/Ultra.
