Hello community,
I really appreciate your help from the other side of the screen. I wanted to ask for your recommendation regarding my next hi-fi setup for jazz and rock. Due to budget and space constraints, I have to go with active speakers, and I'm set on getting the Technics SL-1500 turntable. Where I'm undecided is on the cartridge, phono stage, and active speakers:
1) AT-VM750XSH + Pro-Ject Tube Box S2 + KEF Coda or SVS Prime Pro
2) Nagaoka MP-200 + Graham Slee ERA Gold V (the Pro-Ject would be a good match) + KEF Coda or SVS Prime Pro
I'm worried about the AT cartridge because of its capacitance and excessive brightness. Which of the two would win in the speaker battle?
Thanks again

Welcome to the WHF forum.

It’s always hard to know where a new contributor is ‘coming from’ or expecting.

I wonder if you’re being a bit ambitious with the cartridge choice? The 1500C - which is about to be updated with a better motor control and a higher price - has an adequate cartridge and in built phono stage. Isn't that a good place to begin and just plug into some KEF Codas?

The speakers also have their own phono stage, so I don’t think you need a third device to do the same just yet!

More here…

Why are these cartridges too ambitious for that turntable? For 200 euros more, I can upgrade to one of those cartridges; I think that's a reasonable price. The budget for the rest would be 800-1000 speakers and 500 phono. All around 2500 euros. Thanks
