Help and advice wanted

Can someone please advise me on the best A/V Receiver on the market today with my budget of £450, there is the Onkyo 606 or the Dennon 1909 are there any more receivers / amps from Sony or anyone.

I think I'm in a similar boat to you. I've also just seen the Pioneer VSX-LX50 for £400 and I also like the look of the 2400ES that is soon to be released by Sony. The appeal of those two to me is that they both also have pre-outs but I don't know how they compare to the others in terms of sound quality. It also seems that if you're willing to push the budget to £600, you can pick up an Onkyo 875 which apparently blows all the others out of the water.

There's a Group Test at that price point in our current issue - the winner is the Denon AVR-1909 (you can read the review here).

However, we've yet to test the Denon against either the new Pioneers or the new Sonys - both of which have very promising specs.

We'll be doing more comparative testing as soon as those products land with us (certainly before we announce our Awards).
