I really don't understand,as a European brand(Norway right?), why has HEGEL only been known in the UK recently.

I thought about buying a Hegel H20 to drive my ATC Scm19 for a very long time(but got PRIMARE A32 instead).

Hegel has a reputiaton of producing clean/straightforward and powerful sound, so I guess KEF r700,which is on the warm side, is a good match.

By the way, the production of Hegel is outsourced to ShangLing(who also owns YBA) in south China.

Great purchase.

Dont want to start another war but i really think i need better (thicker) speaker cable now. I have cheap cable and am prepared to pay up to £50 per meter since i only beed 1.5 meter each cable. So i want advice between pure copper like audioquest or copper cable with silver from chord

Out of those two I would go for all copper. I find the copper silver mix brings a smidge of treble harshness. However that can depend on whether your system needs it.

Hi Andrew

You should also consider 500 strand OFC speaker cables. Fwiw, if they're good enough for Hegel's reference H30

then i feel they'll also be more than good enough for the H160.

All the best

Just got my new Hegel from Musicraft in Derby today. Playing all my Ripped CDs on Jriver - Playing through Kef R700s

Wow is all i can say - the sound quality improvement over my old Roksan kandy K2 is so big - very hard - explain.

The beat is so more prominent - so fast and catchy - so much time and space between notes - no distortion compared to k2.

the drums are so much more defined and kick louder - you can follow all the instruments easy no more blurring together.

My wife walked in and instantly said that sounds amazing - normaly she asks me to turn it down. her words were pristine and clear.#

all the reverb and echos are so much more easy to follow with so much silence between notes.

also its as if the hegel has climed into the speakers and kicked the bass drivers into action - its like ive upgraded them - they goseem to go much lower but not to the detrement of sound quality

very pleased - thanks to Rick at Musicraft and Steve(cant rememember if 750 or 197something) for recomending this product.

sorry for bad grammer and spelling am now pi....d
Hi Andrewjvt, I would like to buy the hegel H80 amp to match my Dynaudio DM3/7 speakers; did you have the opportunity to audition the H80?

I say: hi no i only had demo of h160 but id have no hesitation to recomend any hegel product. From what ive read the 80 is only a little less dynamic but still sounds great

Are you sure you only need 1.5m of cable? I assume the amp is between the speakers and you are not running the cable down to the floor then across then up to the speakers?

Amps in the middle and speakers 3m apart. Did you think thats too close?

I think he was implying if the amp is elevated at all from the ground (and possibly the speaker terminals too), you will not only need the 1.5m, but also the additional height of the amp and height of speaker terminals.....could be an additional 0.5m plus....possibly ;)

I meant do you run your cable straight from the amp to the speakers? Most people run the cable down to the floor then across to speaker stand and then up. My stands are 60cm, the terminals will be about 20cm higher, so thats nearly a 1m plus amp to floor maybe 0.4m thats about 1.2m.

Speakers 3m apart should be fine.

Not sure on the rules regarding links to other reviews but a well known American magazine posted a nice review of the H160 on 5th June.

Hopefully mine arrives next week.

Good for you. Where are you getting it from and what amps did you compare too?

And u wont be dissapointed. 3 or 4 weeks in and still amazed by the control and also detail that all my old amps did not seem to have. When you first switch it on for the first time dont worry if it sounds a bit flat. 3 songs later and it will come alive.

Please feel free to add your review to this thread i would live to gear your impressions.
