I am eventually taking the plunge into my first LCD purchase. So please be gentle with my first post.

It started with a LG 37LG7000

but I was quickly moved after reading various threads to the

Sony KDL32W4000

Since reading more threads, the panasonic has now come into the equation, but dont know which model.

It doesnt matter whether its 32 or 37. The wife likes smaller things!!

I'm all threaded out and just want some one to point me in the right direction as to a good quality, good value LCD.

Thanks in anticipation and Happy New Year

I know it is not LCD but the Panasonic 37" or 42" PX plasma models are very good value at 499 from comet, i have the 42 and you get a very good SD picture.

As it stands at the moment I'd go Samsung or Philips at the higher end if it has to be lcd. Just make sure you go LED backlit.

Thamks guys, See my ignorance.

LCD or Plasma will do. Just looking for the best advise. I am sick to death of reading this, reading that. The market changes so quickly.

Leave it open for more comments.

Cheers

That's a great question - cos if you're a decent distance than i'd strongly suggest hunting down a Panasonic TH37PX80 - incredible value 37in plasma that's great with standard TV and HD.

Thanks Guys and Ladies for all your answers.

I sit roughly 3 - 4 metres from the TV.

Just another quick one, Dixons price at present, 517 for 37" and 449 for 42". Is it normal that the 37 is more expensive.

Cheers

3-4m? I'd be tempted by the 42in

But to answer your question - the 37in is an Award winner and has been very popular, The 42in is a good set, too, but has been rather eclipsed by its Full HD Panasonic siblings, so I reckon they've more stock left to shift.

You'll find the 37in for less than £500 if you shop around, too...

As Clare says, you'd enjoy the 42in at 3-4 metres. ÿI'd only go for one of the Full HD sets if I watched blu-rays and had Sky+HD (or equivalent). ÿUnder any other circumstances - watching upscaled DVD and non-HD channels via Freeview/Sky - I'd save my pennies and get the excellent HD ready set.

Thanks to Everyone for there help on this. Am heading of today for the TH37 PX80 as it is the only one anyone has stock of. But it dropped to under 500 at comet, so that will do.

Thanks again
