Ok regularly asked question but don't want to trawl through loads of other peoples requests. Basically wants some good headphones (not in-ear) which deliver very good bass, mid etc. Absolute limit of £100. Don't really want too chunky dj type either. Just been given a 80gb ipod classic and can't listen to it with those little white things.

Thanks in advance.

Are you using them on public transport? If so, you're gonna want to limit your selection to closed back headphones, or you'll incur the wrath of your fellow travellers.

Sennheiser PXC250 would fit the bill well, they're on Play.com for £65.

Agree with Chris on the Sennheiser PXC250 but if you are going to us it at home than a pair of Alessandro MS1s(from the States $99 including postage)will fit the bill, these are amazing sounding headphones.

Ok,not been back to this thread for a few days as ive been a little busy. Thanks for your help mahler and chris. Been looking into it a little and was considering the noise cancelling Sennheisers but im not sure about carrying an extra little battery pack around as i tend to carry my mp3 players in my pocket. Ive been seriously considering some Grado SR60's. Ive been researching the Grado range and it seems that the SR60's are the only choice for mp3 player use, as the higher end (SR80, SR125) are a lot better when amped. It seems the Alessandro MS1s are modified Grados (SR80's?) but i don't think you can get them over here in the UK? Not sure if cans are a lot cheaper over in the U.S, and whether it would be worth me getting some shipped?

Grado RS60's i found as cheap as £68/$120 delivered

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I got my SR80s from Richer Sounds. Can't remember how much but it was for less than the list price for the SR60s.

Very good headphones....but I'm not sure I could recommend them for use with an iPod in public. They feature an open backed design, meaning that everyone on the bus is going to be able to hear your music.

This hacks me off, so I suspect they won't make you particularly popular.

Ahh, you know i hadn't even thought about that. Yes totally agree with you with regards to peoples music blaring out on any form of public transport. The absolute worst is people with mobile phones with speakers but i wouldn't like to come under that category at all.

So, back to the drawing board. These are going to be used on public transport a fair bit so definitely need to be closed back. Trying to stay under the £100 mark and can't be in ear as i just simply can't get on with them.

So is it back to the sennheiser PXC250/300? or what about the cheaper Grado Igrados? although ive heared there a bit flimsy with a really thin wire which always annoys me!

Glad we are able to help you on your quest for headphones. I have a set of the Grado Igrados and yes they are excellent but they ae open, so, everyone around you will hear what you are hearing. Regarding the Alessandro's, order them from the States, cost $99 and that includes postage, result ,cheaper than the Grado 60's and a better sounding headphone,a winner on all accounts, go on you know it makes sence.

Ok ive just been into the shops and bought myself a pair of Sennheiser HD25- SP2's. Got them on sale at £55 so was pretty happy with that and they sound pretty nice. Think im still going to get some Alessandros for at home though as i did listen to a pair of Grado 80's and they were definitely a step up from the Sennheisers. Wasn't too impressed by the Grado Igrados, thought they sounded a bit harsh and felt very cheap.

Thanks to everyone for your help, especially mahler who's probably made me go and fork out some extra money now.
