I have recently ordered the Panasonic SC-BT200 Bluray system based on the review that What Hifi rated 5 stars. Am I right to assume that the freebie HDMI cable I get will be pretty basic?

I would like to get a suitable cable to do justice to the system, in the test you did, I couldn't see mention of whether you used their supplied cable or a specialised brand.

I have a Pioneer PDPLX508D screen and Sky HD (connected via a QED hdmi cable).

Thanks.

Yawn, it must be HDMI cable thread time again! Use the search function, the topic comes up a lot and quite frankly has been discussed to death. There are two camps, the believers and non believers. I'm a non believer, well I believe that as long as the cable is well made and works, there is no improvement to be made. I have several cables in my own system ranging from freebie Sky/Toshiba cables to pro2 (£), Octava (£), MarkGrant (££) and BetterCables (£££) and can't tell the difference. Even QED don't profess that there is. Panasonic supplied you with a cable, so I suggest you try swapping between that one and the QED one you already have and see if you can spot a difference. Personally I would just use it and buy a bluray and enjoy the movies!

I am a believer, I don't really know why I am a believer but I do think the better the hdmi cable the better the performance.

I have seen some very good deals recently on expensive hdmi cables too.

Apologies for making you yawn, but new to this forum, so show a little patience and respect, it costs nothing.

Thanks gel for your comments.

And don't forget it's not only picture, it's sound to from a hdmi cable.

The thicker the more quality there.

Sorry for any offence. I certainly did not intentionally meant to disrepect you. However, HDMI has been around for years, so do you honestly think that this is the first time that this question has been asked?
