HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel)

I understand this will take the TV audio and send it back through the HDMI to a external sound system that supports ARC.

What I want to clear up is it's capacity for channeling audio from the TVs other HDMi sockets

HDMI 1 (Apple TV)
HDMI 2 (ARC Surround sound system)
HDMI 3 (Playstation 4)
HDMI 4 (not used)

In this situation I expect full 5.1 sound to be sent from the TV broadcasts to the surround system ,but will 5.1 audio from the HDMI 1 (Apple TV) and HDMI 3 (Playstation 4) be routed through the TV and out to the surround system?

Or is this completely limited to stereo or not at all?

(TV Is Samsung D7000 40")

No, I don't believe it will. It's not the ARC at fault, samsung tvs have limited capacity with passthrough. It will bung audio from the tuners in 5.1 down to the amp, but your other sources will passed in 2.0.

a better option (assuming your amp has passthrough in stand by) would be plugging your sources in to the amp. It should allow playback through tv speakers when amp is in stand by, it's how I run my setup with a similar era Samsung.
