Firstly, I currently have a Samung 7 series 40" with [basic] Samsung BD, PS3, V+HD & HTPC on HDMI (1.3) & Wii on AV. Will be dropping the HTPC for an ATV2 (XBMC break) soon.

I noticed the audio when running a BD on the player dropped massively (tried everything to resolve but no effect). Good normal vol is 10, equiv HD vol is 35!!! Tried a HD film on Pay Per View and same so i'm guessing the TV doesn't like HD audio sources.

For 2 reasons I was thinking of getting a Marantz NR1601 (due to space/wife) and a Cambridge Audio Minx 2-pairs front + sub. (1) I'm guessing that this will bypass any sound issues the TV has (unless amp off and using standby passthrough) and give me proper audio, and (2) the TV only has Optical Audio out so for wireless headphones (thinking about the Senny RS180s unless anyone can recommend better wifi ones for c.£150) I need an outlet, other than hanging a mini DAC off the TV. Again, thoughts on very small 2.1 speaker set-up appreciated.

Sorry for any newb terminology ; newb!

Any thoughts?

Thanks

it is common that you need to turm up the volume when playing a HD track.

it is what a volume control is for.

you will have to adjust the volume with an AV amp as well.

Yes, HD audio has a far greater dynamic range, ie the difference between the loud bits and the quiet bits is greater, so during normal sequences the audio will seem to be quieter, until something noisy happens and then you'll be rushing for the remote!
