Hi, using an old (couple of years anyway) Dennon AVR2807 and a new Sony BDP-S760.

Amp has HDMI in and out but does not decode the new HD codecs onboard.

Simple question - am i getting HD sound ? and how can i tell ?

If not then Santa's sleigh might be weighed down by a 2310 this christmas.

many thanks

I was in Cambridger sevenoaks on friday and the denon avr2310 was not decoding the new soundtracks on the front of the amp.

It seems some manufacturers have yet to get a grip of the new blu ray soundtracks.

You can get the Bluray player to send the True HD and Master Audio already decoded.

Gel, that's really not helpful - the Denon AVR-2310 is excellent at handling HD soundtracks; that set-up was obviously running with the player decoding the formats

To the OP - i'm not personally familiar with your amp and whether it'll be able to handle your player decoding the formats and receiving them in LPCM format via HDMI connection. Your alternative connection method is multichannel analogue outputs from the Sony (which decodes the HD formats) into your Denon. That will definitely deliver HD audio benefits.

This just means that the player was doing the decoding (PCM). This Denon could easily bitstream the HD codecs, alternatively.
