Hi guys
After a year of trying amps, speakers and record players I decided on a sony ta fb740r that's been serviced and a couple of new pieces replaced a gorgeous rega planer 3 and eventually a pair of Q acoustics 3050i's to tie it all together, sound? It's great to my ears and anyone who has popped round has been impressed. So anyway question is I'm putting aside money each month for a marantz pn7000n for when my poor sony shuffles off to hifi heaven! But before that I need a cd player,I'm not really sure where to start (as usual!) But I've read a positive review on the marantz pm6007? I thought it might be a great cd player now and go with marantz amp when I need to upgrade. My budget is about £400 so as usual any advice is welcome, chars an happy new year

The PM6007 is an amplifier, did you mean CD6007?
If you're going to buy the PM7000N at some point I would wait and simply buy a CD transport to hook up to it.
BTW I did mean the cd6007! Predictive text,MS and no sleep work wonders! I'd already planned a transporter when I got the marantz amplifier upgrade and I'd decided on the audiolab 6000cdt any thoughts? All feedback welcome

No reason why the Audiolab couldn't work. I would also look at Arcams latest offerings

Did hear the Marantz CD 6007 earlier last year. It was fine sounding but had nothing to compare it to.

I’m a long time fan of Marantz, especially their CD players. You can’t go wrong with the CD6007, either brand new or used, or one of the many ‘open box’ or refurbished offers.

Of course, you can subsequently use it as a transport with a future amplifier that has its own DAC, if you wish, whereas a transport like the Audiolab 6000 must have a DAC available elsewhere.

Alternatively, if you want a real bargain, a few places sell the Tascam CD-200 for under £250. Its transport is used in £2-3,000 players from specialists like Primare and ATC so you’re getting incredible value imo. I bought one myself recently and it’s a gem.

FWIW you can't go far wrong with any budget or midrange Marantz gear, whether it's CDPs, amps or tuners.

Good find 👍
Great brand.
(at the sort of price you could pay for rubbish).
Indeed. I think because it’s not promoted and a bit studio-oriented it’s overlooked for Hifi use. There’s a secondary advantage for me in that unlike my Marantz, the remote doesn’t also talk to my Linn streamer.

Here it is when originally unpacked, doing analogue duties. Now it’s feeding digital though the Katalyst DAC in my Linn DSM.

Certainly looks like it's designed to be rack-mounted but hey, if it's that good I wouldn't care too much about looks....
