I noted in your last issue that you had a group test for 40 inch TVs. Surely a group test should mean that you compare goods of a similar spec and price. Certainly this is the case in most other technology magazines but not What Hi Fi? it seems. The eventual 'winner' of the Group Test was a good deal more expensive than the other TVs reviewed as part of the test. Surely one should expect this outcome and not have to rely on an 'expert' magazine to confirm it.

No, the test was of 40-42in TVs, and designed to show buyers of sets of this size what was available across the price spectrum. And there's not always a direct relationship between price and quality...

Also, all our reviews are conducted on a performance-per-pound basis - so the pricier TVs have to work even harder to justify their value over the budget sets.

It's worth noting that our Best Buys section features both budget and premium TV buys, as will our forthcoming Awards, where appropriate.
