I have my speakers currently sat on Granite plinths which are on top of carpet but they way a tonne - should i place my speakers on top using the rubber feet or spikes? I currently just use the rubber feet but found my spikes last night whilst clearing the spare room for decorating.

Are spikes just used to pierce the carpet or do they add to the overall sound?

I use the rubber feet but only because I have young children and when I first put the spikes on, it felt like there was a chance they could be dragged off the plinths and topple over.

normally...yes. You may need some spike shoes if you dont want to mark the granite though. Lots have made them from small coins with a felt pad stuck to the bottom......

I have used the spikes onto the granite and think it helps to keep the sound tight - but did use a glass drill to make a small indent of ñ 1 mm so that the speaker sits securely.

To locate the places to drill the holes, place (masking or other) tape in the general area on the granite, place the speaker with a bit of pressure to mark the tape and the marks will show you exactly where to drill. Level the speaker by adjusting the spikes

Good idea....probably better than spike shoes as the speaker is fixed in place on the slab and wont slide.........one to remember....

I use spikes sitting in decoupling gadget which place on top of granite plinths. I have no reason why I am doing this though!
