Hi All,

This is my first post here. My wife and I are expecting our first baby soon and I am thinking about setting up a headphone only system. I have a few bits and pieces to sell to fund it. I already own a pair of Sennheiser HD-555's and a pair of Grado SR60's and I much prefer the SR60's sound. With this in mind I was thinking of upgrading to the SR325i's. The problem comes in the fact that I have a Cambridge Audio A5 amp (no headphone socket) and a Yamaha RX-V640RDS AV reciever (Headphone out but not really suited to music).

Now my qustion is, should I get a Pro-ject Head Box II and use it with the Cambridge A5 and SR325i or is this system just way below the standard of the SR325i's?

The source will maily be my PC but I do have an Arcam Alpha 7se CD player knocking around somewhere.

Thanks for any responses.

Jim

Beresford DAC. No question. If your PC has a digital out, it will transform the stocj sound, and provide you a headphone socket. This is what I use with my HD595s, and it sounds wonderful.

If you haven't got a digital out, then you can either upgrade your sound card to one that has, or use any one of a number of USB soundcards that do.

Or you could check out Head-fi.org and headamp.com Good luck! I have the Ultrasone HFI-780 and they're lovely. Don't blame you for the Grado. But a headphone amp is a must. If you had a good source, then you'd just need a good amp, but as Frog has said, if your sources aren't going to do you justice, then take them out of the equation by using an amp with a DAC built in. Beresford get good write ups, but as you'll read on Head-fi, there are a number of good makes, Headamp, Headroom and Corda spring to mind. They're mostly made to order and it's a custom / enthusiasts market. Enjoy researching it!

I've bought a Headamp Pico, but I'm still waiting for the darned thing to arrive, 4 months later!!!! There's a waiting list. Grrrrrrrrr.

I have a Head Amp Headphone Amplifier , and I'm very pleased with it. I have the Alessandro Music Series 2 Headphones to partner it as well. By the way have you received yours yet , and what do you think?

I received the shipping notice today. That is, I received an e-mail from UPS that they'd been informed they would be receiving a package to ship to me, but hadn't actually taken possession of it yet!!!!

And for a moment I was getting excited!! It's only been, like, 5 months. Or has it been 6 months. Mumma mia. So when it arrives I'll post something!!!! After all, I only paid for the thing in June!

Honestly, Justin seems to be a nice guy, but he can't make Pico's fast enough to satisfy demand and he is not particularly good at the whole - customer relations palaver. But lovely over the phone. I don't know. It's a hand made product. That has to be worth something!
