Fragile build quality? My SR80s are 10 years old and still going strong. Dropping them has little effect with the simple strong band and big pads. Modding them involves heating with a hairdryer to prize apart the plastic grills. So unless you attack yours with a hammer, I don't see what is fragile about them.

One well-known fault experienced by owners of Grados is the failure of the cord which breaks down around the Y piece, whether it is attacked by a hammer or not.
