Currently thinking about upgrading the cartridge on my Rega Planar 1, I've decided on these two cartridges (Bias2 and Goldring 2100). Anybody has any input?

I assume the Rega Bias2 would be an easier fit, since it's Rega made, and would fit the Rega fine. While I might need some shims for the Goldring 2100.

I think the Bias 2 would be easier to fit, as you suggest. The Goldring is taller, but it's also about twice the price, so an Elys 2 might be a fairer comparison. The only snag when swapping is I think the Rega stylus is glued in place, when normally one removes it for safety until all connected up.

Both are quite high output, so no big difference there. I recall your thread about how to set up your table with another cartridge, so I guess you definitely want to upgrade the cartridge rather than leaving it as it is and considering a better table?

Quite agree with nopiano and would suggest the Goldring anyway. Another to look at, in the middle pricewise,is the Audio Technica AT-120. This probably will not need shimming.

Is Paul here? Does the Perfomance Pack for the RP1 works with the 2016 range? The upgraded drive belt seems interesting.

Priam,

Indeed I am from the beautiful island of Formentera, yes the performance pack will work with the new Planar range of turntables (Planar 1 and Planar 2) and is very much still available as an after purchase upgrade for the above models.

PD

According to Rega site Performance pack is designed for Planar 1, Planar 2, Rp1. http://www.rega.co.uk/rp1-performance-pack-1.html
One more thing. I don't know whether is cartridge change cost-effective. I had the RP1 and wanted to replace the stock cart Ortofon OM5 with a better one. Among other, I tried 2m Red and even 2m blue. It was a difference, but too small for the price. So I bought a new turnable RP3.
