If this does happen and they do, do a remake would the what hi fi team be able to do anything for its many readers on have brought the first blu ray, ie front a petition so that its readers can get the new one for free? eg trading in the old one for the new one?

The thought of another new one coming out I think is disgraceful.

Thanks

Trading in the old one for the new one.

Wish I could do that with DVDs up to BDs. Fat chance. You could also have the same arguement when they remastered DVDs in the past.

I think you pay your money and take a chance.

I just got it on sky movies, 1080i and DD 5.1 good enough for me.

Braveheart was on channel 4hd, but I hate commercials, so didnt record

Also shame that the BBFC have cut Braveheart here which makes the US disc the one to own as it's a fantastic movie

This has happened a few times in the past, with Full Metal Jacket, Fifth Element and now Gangs of New York getting re-released (in the US at least) since the originals were all so bad.

What I don't get is, there was no outcry for Gangs of New York (which I've seen and is a frightful Blu-Ray release in terms of picture quality) and yet Gladiator is actually a pretty good release. Not perfect I'll grant you, but fantastic compared to the original Gangs of New York release. And yet everyone's going mental about it...

Except, of course, that Sony was the distributor in that case - a company with an unparalleled vested interest in the success of Blu-ray format. A format which, at the time, was still battling HD DVD.

Times have moved on a lot since then, and this time it ain't Sony involved...

I think if and when this does get released in this country again, I will do a letter of complaint to Universal, at least to see what kind of response i get, it only feels like yesterday I brought the last one, when you buy these things you at least expect the best and only work on it, i must say I am not disappointed with the first one, but do and thought i was getting the best possible, will see.

Don't forget that any offers they may extend towards owners of the 1st release blu-ray in the US may well not apply overseas as the BR in the US is distributed by Deamworks/Paramount and the UK version is Universal. Similarly, we might get a trade-in deal that the US might not get... but that would certainly be a first and on one leg I shalln't stand waiting.

Can't quite see why you are making all the fuss about this when you say "i must say I am not disappointed with the first one"

I think it is because fans of gladiator waited so long for it to be released they were all expecting it to be the only one and for it to big done properly.

With the first lot of blu rays when they first come out people were expecting mistakes and rushed jobs and you could see that in the reviews of them.

I see that the revised Gladiator Blu-ray versions is now out in the US, and has received very positive reviews. If you purchased the first release of Gladiator on Blu Ray, Universal have set up an exchange program:

"If you wish to exchange your original DVNR (digital video noise reduction) feature disc we ask that you send us just your disc 1 in an envelope with your name and address enclosed. Please keep your original packaging and we will post you out a new disc 1."

Disc 1 should be mailed to the following address:

Universal Pictures (UK) Ltd
'Gladiator Exchange'
Prospect House
80-110 New Oxford Street
London
WC1A 1HB
