Thanks, i think your suggestion of a hybrid tube amp may be what i require.

Did a quick search on unico primo - looks good but to wait for second hand to appear on the market may take a while. Any opinions on another hybrid tube amp brand like peachtree audio?

I started with solid state integrated amps, then got a hybrid integrated (Unison Rsearch Unico) and loved the combination of tube pre and solid state power so much that I'm still sticking with that formula now.

The tweeter material is not a significant factor how a speaker's HF will sound as much as the whole design, implementation and quality is. Soft domes can be equally harsh and bright as metal dome or ceramic. Same goes for SS amps, they can be wooley, soft and "warm" as any tube amp.
