Hi,

I'm after a Television that would mainly (90%) be used for PC and Xbox.

Can anybody recommend a good TV?

I've seen the Panasonic TX-P42G20B for £599.99 would that be a good choice? or are there better TV's available?

Thanks

at that price the pana is a steal imo, great for gaming and movies. the sony 40ex503 and samsung 40c650 are also very good, but being lcd's they may not be the best choice for gaming compared to the plasma, which will have a faster response time..

For gaming plasma would be better but if you are using it with your pc lcd would be better because you may get screen burn with plasma.

I've just read here http://www.another site/forums/xbox-360/1327215-input-lag-does-affect-you.html that those TV's have huge input lag.

Which is bad for gaming.

Would the Panny be alot better? even though i would have to take care of it, for the first xxx hours(Burn in)

I found this http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=it&u=http://www.dday.it/redazione/1637/DDay-The-Best-Gaming-TV-Test-edizione-2010.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.dday.it/redazione/1637/DDay-The-Best-Gaming-TV-Test-edizione-2010.html%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG&rurl=translate.google.co.uk#pagina-2

It seems like the TV's with lowest lag input, don't get good ratings as a tv

ok, will do some googling, to see if i can get it cheaper :)

Is there a guide anywhere about running in a plasma, would the Panasonic manual tell you about running it in?

Thanks

just avoid maxing out the contrast, or using the dynamic setting (heaven knows why anyone would anyway) for the first 200 hours and you will be fine..modern pana plasmas are extremely resistent to screen burn..

Regarding screen burn on plasma, you need to leave the same image on the screen for about 24 hours for that to happen! Ive been using a TH-37PX80 for 2 years now on my xbox and no issues whatsoever. And best of all with the plasma, nominal input lag! Be wary of this! Im thinking of going P42G20 too. May i ask where you see it for that price? Gamertag- Krisis83

I use my LCD for a lot of PS3 gaming and have had no issues with input lag. I found the sharp bright image of the LED backlight Samsungs very good for gaming and I play FPS which requires alot of screen movement. I have a friend who had a Plasma and watching sports on it was horrible. You had a real job sometimes seeing the ball and when you did it appeared to have 'tail' of balls following it, and this was a good Plasma aswell.

When I first started my Samsung up I noticed the motion was blurry when I moved quickly so I played around with the settings and it solved it. Turn almost all the 'bonus' settings and features off as I think they try to smooth things out quite alot which results in the laggy display. Oh... and select either movie or gaming mode and motion shouldn't be a problem.

I think in the grand scheme of things when you take into acount network connection, other equipment processing time and human response time you probably need to be a super ninja uber Jedi to notice the TV lagging too much (maybe I'm just at the bottom of the evolution scale!!!).

Go to somewhere like John Lewis who often have demo rooms rigged up with various inputs, one of which will surely be a gaming machine. I might be wrong and had a bad plasma experience.

EDIT

I just saw this thread right after posting this. Right next to it as well.

Just got that Panasonic TV for my lounge. Whilst it ultimately doesn't quite come up to my Samsung (which cost an awful lot more), and it's very hard to do a direct comparison as they're used in very different set-ups.
The one thing that really impressed me from the start was how smooth the motion was better IMO than my Samsung.

recieved the TV yesterday.

TV looks good and is great for watching TV, but if you want to use it as a monitor, i would avoid it.

Screen buzzes very loud when connected to your computer, resolution isn't right(black border around the screen) and it looks blurry (tried VGA and HDMI connections) it might be down to the ATI graphics card, but there's still the buzzing noise.

Will ring up John Lewis today and ask for the model to be replaced for the Sony ex503

Whats it like for gaming? Im currently looking for a new set and can't make my mind up. I was looking at the Samsung UE 46 6510, P 46 G20 and the LG 50 PX990. Cant decide which to go with, the picture on the samsung is very good, but plasmas are more reliable.
