Just a quick question, I've been told that playing games on a projector would invalidate the warrenty. I can't understand why. Could anyone clear this up for me please. thanks

Hi Tinkerbell,

I think someone is trying to ring YOUR bell!

Unless you and your friends are playing Twister on it and standing on it, then there will be no problem playing games on a projector, in fact, I cannot recommend anything better for the game experience.

Gerry.

I agree - games look awesome projected, and (with a decent projector) you get none of the motion issues you do on flatscreens.

The only thing I can think of that could affect a projector warranty re gaming is if you're an intensive days-at-a-time gamer - but then it'd only shorten the warranty period, not invalidate it.

Meaning? Most projector warranties are for a set period of hours' lamp-use as well as a time period: whichever you hit first (for example 3 years or 6000 hours use) means the warranty expires.

As 6000 hours is 250 full days of use, you could see how a zealous gamer (or indeed marathon movie/TV fan) would get through their warranty period quicker.

Thanks for your replies Clare and Gerry, to this and my HD-DVD question. Looks like I'll be looking for a projector in the new year. Just which one now.

If your budget is around £3k I would thoroughly recommend the SONY SXRD VPL-VW60. Not easy to audition but a stonking projector.
