With the Olympics starting in a few days time and not a lot of space on my Sky HD box, I was thinking of getting a HD PVR to record the many hours of broadcast, so that my wife and I can speed through it to find the key events we are interested in.

Can anyone recommend a HDD Freeview PVR with a large disk capacity and which is easy to use and has good quality for sporting events?

 Thanks

A hard-drive upgrade for your Sky+ HD box might be a better answer. More info here. I know several Forum regulars have updated their boxes for higher capacity.

After all, it'd be a shame to watch the Olympics in standard-def when it'll be avaiable via BBC HD and Eurosport HD via Sky.

Clare - thanks for the suggestion.

I guess the question is how brave do I feel...

Trashing the SkyHD box on the eve of the Olympics would generate a certain amount of domestic tension to put it mildly!

ÿThanks for the link though - it looks fairly straightforward...ÿ

Correct me if I'm wrong (please do, 'cos I want one!) but there's no Freesat HD-capable PVR available at the moment. I understand that there's one coming on stream in time for Christmas....

Think I'll have to clear the hard disk on my Virgin V+ box tonight in preparation for Friday. Suddenly, 160GB doesn't seem that much...

Well I took the advice and purchased a 500GB upgrade disc from Xtended Play - excellent service and very good documentation for installing the new disc.

I also purchased a couple of disc caddies (from eBuyer.com - again, excellent service) andÿdownloaded the Copy+ software so that I could copy the existing recordings and planned recordings.

The only slight problem was that I made the erroneous assumption that I needed to format the new disk in order to enable the Copy+ software to work. ÿIn practice, all it meant was that I wasted a bit of time installing the new disc in the Sky HD box, switching it on and allowing it to do its stuff, then dismantling it all again.

If anyone else is thinking of doing it - it isn't as daunting as it might seem and the end result is working without hassle andÿwith lots of space so that we've been enjoying watching numerous hours of the Olympics in HD!
