Thanks for the clips, looks a tidy piece of kit but is it worth forking out £300 for 2 HD channels? I know some people are reluctant to tie into Sky but if you want HDTV then Sky seems the only way to go? Are Humax likely to have access to more HD channels any time soon?

no point in compairing sky with frresat! sky is a subcription service so of course it should have more hd content, freesat was/is intended as an alternative to freeview as there are parts of the country that cannot receive a decent digital terrestrial signal. so when digital switch over takes place those people would have been left without free to air tv without the freesat option.

not every one wants to pay a costly subcription every month. yes there will be more channels added to freesat, but when and how many couldn't tell you

No need to get so defensive, I was merely making an observation regarding the amount of HD content available versus potential costs. I'm no advocate for Sky (I don't have any of their services) merely considering which is the right HD option for me.

I was waiting for this to be released, but £300 is too expensive, considering the Bush HD (non-pvr) box is only £110.

Had it been somewhere around the £200 mark, I would have been there like a flash, but for now will stay with SD...

Other thing to bear in mind is that over 2 years, sky HD only works out £15 more expensive.

how is it only 15 more expensive. you've got the initial cost of the sky hd box £75 at the mo, then even with the basic hd package £26 a month that £699 all in over two years. again not being defensive. just interested in your thinking

your right though £300 is to expensive for the pvr considering its basically a modified version of it's freeview pvr so i've been led to believe, which is half the price

The difference with the Humax box is the HD receiver box itself as single tuner non PVR costs £150.

The other £150 buys you 2 tuners enabling you to record 2 programmes at once (with a free future upgrade to enable 4 programmes at once), a 320GB hard drive (without reserved area unlike Sky+) thus giving 160hrs of SD or 70hrs of HD recording, an EPG that identifies automatically if there's a HD version available and offers the choice of recording in either SD or HD, an epg that identifies programming clashes and offers alternatives if available, an EPG that checks every 10 secs to see if a programmed program starts early so as to avoid missing the beginning if it does, Ethernet port for PC archiving and BBCi player compatability, HDMi, 2 USB, it is pretty well featured.

Only thing I could have ever wanted for is the ability to record Freeview as well.

I personally think its a reasonable price but would welcome it cheaper!

was aware of the specs alsone, but thanks. just thought was a bit pricey. although wasn't aware of the upgradability part

its good to know that they maybe upgrading it to the humax "i chord" spec too i.e recording four channels at once though. that could sway me to getting the humax foxsat pvr

Sorry, should have clarified my thinking - I am already a Sky subscriber, and so the upgrade to Sky HD would only be £15 more that going with Freesat HD over two years.

I have to have at least Sky SD, as the wife and daughter "require" boomerang / nick jr / living / etc etc etc
