Hey

Was rummaging around parents attic other day trying to find something and found old JVC R-S5L Stereo Receiver. Apparently when they bought it it was the equivalent of about £1000 now. They forgot they had it, got it out, sounds pretty good. Anyone know much about it?

That was my first foray into proper hi-fi back in nineteen hundred & frozen to death. . .1979, actually. Yes, it was very good in its day, but due to the low output (25W per Channel), you'll need fairly forgiving speakers to make the most of it - 90db min.

From memory, the speakers need to be very open and transparent. I had a pair of Solavox PR25 MKII at the time. You could only get them from Comet, but they were cracking sounding.

For a modern day speaker I would aim for Wharfedale, Monitor Audio or KEF.

(And anyway, your adjectival definition was irrelevant; if you'd read the definition of the verb you would have seen

"verb (used with object)

to reduce the excessiveness of; make less violent, severe, intense, or rigorous.

to preside over or at (a public forum, meeting, discussion, etc.).")
