Fosi V3 Monoblock

Do they actually make a separate preamp then?
And no I haven't bothered to watch yet another YouTube video.... :)
To my mind most people that would use compact components such as this are using powered / active speakers so I don't see the point of monoblock amps.

One of the reviewers seems to think Fosi might have one on the way.

Apparently, the feedback implemented in this V3 mono has cured the speaker load dependency issue, audible in some other class D designs.

With one of these and a PSU local to each of your speakers (maybe hidden behind), I reckon they could be a very cost-effective way of turning your favourite passives into great, high-powered speakers (even got balanced input option for longer signal runs).

...and got me wondering about using the Cyrus integrated I've 'just' bought, as the preamp 🤪

It's a pure power amp, so you can plonk any preamp on top that you wish to. And preferably one that's comprehensive. These are pure mono powerblocs, so you can build a fantastic X.X.X. home theater system as well - just add HT processor and speakers.

Not sure why you would want to when you can buy a complete package with less cables.
How many would you need to produce a working home theatre system?
Yes, I have owned systems with full sized monoblock amps in the past but that was in the past, I don't see anyone needing small monoblock amps if they are trying to build a system with small footprint these days nor do I see them a useful if turning pasdive speakers into active because that's uneconomic and you might just as well buy active speakers in the first place.

And people still faff with turntables, seperate DACs, CD Transports etc etc.

I am an all-in-one integrated guy, others here clearly are not. If you're buying a 2000 quid passive speaker why not juice it properly and on the cheap??? And you can put a splendid preamp/preamp-DAC/preamp-streamer-DAC or whatever the hell you want with a volume control.

In fact I don't see any sense in the Fosi stereo amps with only one line-in input. I would class this V3 powerbloc as one of the first serious products they've released. And the reviews so far are great.

For example and FYI, Eversolo makes a power amp.

I am sure they will find a place for some, even those that don't really know what they want..... :)

Hifi these days does not need to be expensive. Eversolo and Fosi are giving exorbitant prized hi-fi a run for their money. Still, it's about price to performance ratio. Interesting times.

Did you see that on social media Fosi stated they had had over $200,000 in 24 hours pledged via Kickstarter for this product. Most manufacturers would give anything to get that sort of upfront investment, and most likely would need a bank to help.

What amazes me is the speed of development and delivery. I ordered an earlier stereo version with a two month lead time and got it in three weeks, shipped from China and posted to me from a UK distribution point, so no awkward import issues.

I don't know anything about the logistics, but it's been reviewed already on YouTube. One is British. Fosi sent those samples directly.

So everything seems in order.

I've preordered some which arrive in June with the beefy power supplies. The V3 was impressive for the size and cost (I bought and subsequently sold one to try it out). These are improved from the V3 and made mono.

Should be interesting to try them out.

In case you've heard nothing yet, shipping has started. Mine are at the airport in China and should be winging their way to me soon. Hopefully, yours are well on the way too.
I believe there is some delay whilst they get filters made for those who ordered the 10 amp power supplies.
I've not had my delivery email yet.

I changed my order and opted for the 5A power supplies x2 as I asked Fosi if there was any audible benefit to running 2x 10A power supplies and they confirmed there wasn't. The larger ones were intended to run two amps using a splitter. But they are physically much larger, so more cost, more size but no audible benefit.

I'm not too fussed. They will arrive at some point.

I had a email ten days ago offering 20% off for the next batch of 3,000 units, so I’m guessing the Kickstarter thing has finished. Anyway, they gave links to eBay, Amazon.com, AliExpress and direct from Fosi.

I had a think and decided to take a punt on a set. I tried AliExpress despite my misgivings, but it didn’t accept the discount code. I was quite relieved actually! Then Amazon said this is not your UK site and we don’t ship. So I ordered direct.

As with my previous purchase it was simplicity itself. Free delivery included. Still couldn’t enter discount code but for USD$319.98 I wasn’t complaining. But I emailed them anyway to ask if I’d had the 20% offer. Within 24 hours I had a very charming email from Carl with a refund of $63.99.

I have to say it’s astonishing service, whatever one thinks of the products. I make the grand total after processing via my Barclaycard just under £207. For two power amps, two 48v 5amp ps, delivered duty free to my home. I don’t know how they make any money! Today, they are on Amazon.co.uK at £149.99 with a ten percent offer. I still make that about £270, so more than 25% extra cost overall.

Will be a bit of fun for a modest outlay.

Apparently Fosi insists two 5v PS supplies won't be better than their single 10v PS - did you err on the side of caution?

Tested yet?

They aren’t scheduled to come until early August.

I thought separate power supplies would give more flexibility. I can’t decide whether to treat them almost as my stereo power amp and set them next to each other in the middle - or to plonk one behind each speaker and use shorter speaker wires. I’ve got some 1.2 metre XLRs that might be ideal, and I can cut down some speaker cables. We’ll see!

On a desktop I’d probably have used the 10 amp version with the splitter. I’ve already got a stereo V3 with the 48 volt 5 amp PS too, so it seemed a better choice.
