hi all

am looking to upgrade my old technics fm tuner to something better sounding

i dont know whether its just the technics tuner but the radio currently sounds flat and has no clarity or detail let alone bass

i have tried listening on pc on the radio 1 online player and sound is excellent- much punchier bass and quality of sound

my question is, would a newer DAB/FM tuner from the likes of denon or marantz be up to the same quality as the sound streamed from the online website? also am considering an internet radio streamer from denon

thanks in advance

Can't comment on DAB, as the only one I've tried (Pure Digital) couldn't pick up any signal.

Marantz produce some really good tuners, as do Denon and Arcam. Suppose it boils down to budget and the rest of your kit.

Only yesterday I had a new satellite dish installed for Freesat, and the engineer who has been in the business about 35 years, said how poor DAB is in comparison with FM. Snag is getting a decent FM aerial these days, unless you live near a transmitter and can get away with a piece of wet string (or a folded dipole).

As most folks have router these days, internet radio is in effect aerial-free, and I have had decent results on 320k streams from Radio 3 and Linn Classical, via my Squeezbox.

That seems to be what I found, I think dab is fine for smaller radios but not for a specialist HiFi system. I can't seem to get a very good quality FM sound tho, might just be my tuner
