A well integrated sub with a standmount ticks the boxes for me. The secret is to prevent the sub and standmount overlapping to the point where the bass smears, and affects overall sound quality. Get it right and in most small/medium size rooms, the sound will be full, detailed and engaging. Having said that, I’d still probably use a sub now, even with a floor stander.

If you haven't already decided / bought, personally I'd go with floorstanders if possible and if they're suitable for the room size, they just add that extra "fullness" / range of sound.

I have different systems in 3 rooms, my desktop setup I absolutely love with bookshelf speakers in close proximity but there's no way in the world I'd want that in the lounge ... flip side I wouldn't want my lounge floorstanders on my desktop :)
