hi, john glasgow scotland, for years i have used yamaha audio, and do love the yamaha sound, so now i wanna go from bookshelf speakers to floorstanding speakers;.. do i stay faithfull to the yamaha camp, or do i shift to mordant, mission, tanoy, elac, b&w, cambridge or castle or something else? looking for a clean dynamic wide sound with a nice tight detailed bass.. thinking of the speaker max size to be 45 inches tall, buying budget between £190.00 - £290.00

Hi John...not wanting to rain on yer parade but if you want a proper good pair of floorstanding speakers with your listed requirements... you better add a zero to your budget.I wouldn't even consider a pair under a grand.the quality of f/s speakers in your price range are dubious to say the least.Maybe look for some used standmounts at the upper end of your budget...oh and you haven't mentioned your current kit which would give a clearer picture of what can be recommended and room size, decor etc.ps.i'm just down the road a bit in Ayrshire . welcome to the forum.

You beat me to it. As you say kit and room size is needed before anything can be suggested even from the second-hand market.

As Mark has said, good floorstanders don't come cheap, though you can get some quite nice QA models for around £350. You might like this bargain, though a listen is essential:- https://www.richersounds.com/product/floorstanders/mission/mx3i/miss-mx3i-blk

Yamaha have recently launched a budget range and I saw a review at £500 a pair, but they probably lack the classic house sound. To be honest, you do need to hear some current offerings, to get a realistic idea what you might want/need. You should have quite a few stores to try in your lovely city.

i purchased pair of Wharfedale d330, they are okay but just not engaging , so i'm looking to return to kef trying to find out any experiences folks have with the Q300, EPOS M12 mind you was mighty impressed with the dali oberon so envisage a return to stand mounts
