Hi all,

My name is Frans from Holland,Rotterdam.

Finally I have a 1,500 pounds budget to buy a decent Home Cinema.

I already have a Panasonic 32 inch Full HD LCD and a PS3.

The Panasonic will be replaced by a larger 42 inch Plasma G serie next week.

I have 1,500 pounds left for Speakers and Receiver.

I was thinking what would be wise, to buy 2 decent speakers + sub + receiver or buy whole 5.1 system + receiver.

Music/Cinema is 20% vs 80%, i watch lot of movies.

I was thinking of 2 B&W 685 with the B&W Sub and a Denon 1910. or should I choose 2 B&W 685 with Denon 2310 and add the sub at a later time.

Thank you for your time

Frans

80% is movie :)

Yep. You're right. I re-read it, and correctly this time. My bad.

I think 5.1 is worthwhile. I think I'd go for 2 pairs of 685s and the matching centre to start with, then go for the sub when you can afford it.

Well i have done it!

I did a demo with 685 and rs6 (2nd hand) and I demoed these speakers 5,6 times already.

I bought the rs6 , rscenter, rs Subwoofer for a very nice price, (1350 euro!)

Tomorrow I am going to demo some AV receivers in a hifi shop near my house.

They still have some rs8 speakers so I can demo them for my receiver choice.

They have Denon 2310,3808 and Marantz 7002 for the same price (900 euro) and another shop has theYamaha rx1900 (795 euro) what would you choose for the RS6 AV package?

grtz.

a very happy man

id go for either one of the denons or the yamaha , simply because the rs range are said to be a slightly bright speaker , and will work better with a warm sounding amp like yam , denon , althougfh the marantz could be fine too , im not sure if thats considered warm sounding .. great choice btw , ive got rx6 fronts and theyre fantastic imo...

I had Denon 1910 before and now 2310. Of course, there is an improvement but I would not pay 400 Euros for the difference (I got a brand new 2310 from Saturn for a lesser price than 1910 - Also I want a Stereo Amp integrated in the setup and 1910 has no preouts - so went for 2310). 2310 is still new and all my friends still love the 1910. I need to set 2310 properly (currently I am running 2310 on the same settings as I did with 1910)

If you catch the upgrade bug, like some of us here, or otherwise, I would still suggest you to stick to the newer '10 series.

Marantz 7002 should be good too (though I have not heard but based on the sound of PM7003) and I am sure you can do a better price that you are offered as it is almost 2 series old and not in stock with most of the dealers.

For movies 80% - Denon wins over, I guess.
