Hi,

I'm looking to buy a new TV. having read advice and suggestions i'm more confused than ever! LCD (the new Panasonic LZD85) looks good, no screen burn, better motion. I then read that ITV broadcast at a low quality and watching football on this TV was terrible, there was a question posted that asked if low quality programmes would look worse on a full HD set. So what's the point in spending a grand on something that isn't going to look that good.

So then i looked at a Panasonic plasma, it's cheaper, and it seems that it is the better option for motion? I was put off by the screen burn. A lot say this is a myth. I was unlucky to read a thread that said a person had managed to burn their screen. The advice was, it was image retention, and should clear. If memory serves me the poster said it didn't clear, and as my old mom will be watching it she's worried about forgeting to change channels every 30mins. I visited a shop and was told Samsung's have a built in screen wash and all makes have a similar thing (I don't think the Panasonics do?) I feel that most shops will tell me anything to get a sale?

The more reviews i read the more confused i get...Movie mode...do i need to turn this on to watch a film? All i want to do is turn the damn thing on and watch corrie on freesat or a DVD. I don't want to spend a lot of money and regret it.

Any impartial advice would be great

Thanks

these days with the more modern tvs, screen burn is no longer such a issue as it may have been.. look up on these forums "screen burn" and you will find alot of conclusive results that show that it is no major issue with the newer panels.

also i think the panasonic has a pixel shuffle feature built in which will slightly shuffle pixels around on still images such as logos to help prevent the unlikely screen burn

also plasma possess deeper black levels and much better motion handling than any LCD, dont believe all the old myths that plasmas burn out or dont last as long either, plasmas are the way to go 🙂

also maybe if you had the TV on discovery channel non stop for 3-4 hours everyday for 2 weeks, thats the last instance i saw a screen burn
