Set my new panny 37PX80 up on Friday making sure the contrast, brightness etc is toned down for the first 100 hrs etc. Was really impressed with it for HD gaming and movies on my PS3 and SD also great, however, switched on to watch the Russia v Netherlands match yesterday evening on ITV and although close up shots looked fantastic, the normal in match pitch view (albeit a fair distance from the pitch) looked blurry and generally pretty lousy - not the clarity and the ability to deal with motion I had expected - I thought plasma's were good for viewing sport?? Has anyone else had this problem, i.e is it simply the poor quality of the signal or is it because of my currently toned down settings etc? Grateful for some reassurance - i'm hoping it'll be far better when I start viewing premiership matches on Sky at the start of the new season.

Thanks in anticipation.....

As you''ll see from many, many other threads on here, it's not your TV. It's ITV's truly woeful standard-def football coverage, looking lousy through its low-bitrate Freeview slot. It's much better in HD form via Freesat (when working!)

I have the 37PX80. I watched the rugby Sat. morning on Sky Sports (SD) and it was really good (the picture that is, not the result!).

SKY and BBC sport are much, much better than ITV.

The good news is that ITV have backed out of showing the final because they don't want to risk being embarrassed by the BBC when the viewing figures come out. The choice would have been a no-brainer for most of us anyway. I generally chose BBC or Sky when there's a choice because of ITV's atrocious picture quality. Hopefully they'll improve things with ITV HD on Freesat.
