In search of my ideal integrated solution I am very interested in these Maxis.

They have received 5 stars as a "dock system" and in particularly for their excellent sound quality.

Out of interest can anyone tell me, in terms of sound quality, what standards they reach when compared with hi-fi speakers?

Assuming a budget/modest amp (or my old amp) is available would the Maxis sound be comparable to something like the Wharfedale 10.1 or EB Acoustics EB1.... or better?

I am also assuming that as they can receive digital data via Wi-Fi then they must have a DAC on board, unfortunately they do not have a digital input to connect the TV or DVD player.

I guess what I really need is ADM9.1 speakers with a built in Wi-Fi receiver......

Hi there,

I have recently owned a pair of the Epos Aktimate Mini's so I can give you my opnion based on the sound quality they gave.

I parked them on stands, and used them with a chord dac and Marantz cd player as source. I listened and listened but unfortunatly they never came good. To my ears they never sounded that co-hesive and controlled and sometimes a bit boomy, also slightly tinny. I think what I am getting at is an "unrefined sound".

This is just my opnion and it could have been down to room acoustics or just personal preference. Do they compare to the other hi-fi speakers I have owned.......not really. I think the ADM9.1 would be massive leap up. For me they weren't a patch on say the Fatman carbon with Tannoy F1 attached.

So ........... I have now sent mine back from whence they came....

I love the idea ! and and all in favour of new product design.....but for me the sound was all important....and they didn't have it.

However the Epos Maxi may be a different kettle of fish..........I guess you maybe able to audition somewhere...

What else can you get in comparison for £600? If you get a pair let me know what you think I wuld be interested in someone else's view?

D

p.s you could always hook a Chordette gem dac to the ADM9.1 speakers and connect via bluetooth or usb using a laptop. I think that might be superb.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Minis.

It would make sense that the star rating is only relevant for comparison with other dock systems at a similar price point.

Basically I am looking for a product (speaker) that integrates all of my current system apart from the source. The integrated system must sound similar or better than my current system and hopefully costs less than 1000?.

Hi Veri I haven't heard the Actimates but I really love my Avi's they sound Fab and have got better as they have burned in.Even my wife loves the sound and is playing more music, you can play your tv/dvd through them and your airport express.

I guess it's something like the Naim Uniti combined with the EB1's or similar that your after. At £2000 grand though.............

Sorry Nick's suggestion was much better......and cheaper
