The grass is always greener on the other side but the urge to "upgrade" can be very compelling. The M12.2's are decent enough speakers, but if you really want to change to a different sound then you could try something like Spendor or PMC floorstanders. Good luck with your quest !

I don't think bass comes much tighter and attacking than Epos standmounts... maybe that's not quite what you're looking for?

I've only seen the D2's on youtube (attached to Sugden amp) so can't offer my own opinion on their sound quality, however I've read good things about them on the web. Spec-wise, they should work fne with your amp. Given that they're 4 times the price of the M12.2's you should be able to hear a decent improvement in sound quality across the spectrum. Is the difference going to be worth the equivalent of spending the value of about 150 cd's.....? Well, only an A/B demo with both sets of speakers will answer that question for you properly.

Ok, what is it that you want to improve on sound wise? I have fairly recently moved from Epos M5 to Monitor Audio RX6. I loved (still do) the Epos, but there was a lack of richness in the mid band that prompted me to upgrade.

Depends too on what sort of budget you've got. I would suggest that to get a night and day upgrade on the M12.2 you might be looking at minimum £800 to £1000 for a pair of standmounts. Although maybe, like I was, you're looking for a different, rather than a better sound?

EDIT: Ah, right, I've just seen the price of those Proacs. I'll leave this one to those with more experience of such hefty price tags!

what i want is a non-boomy, crystal clear, more-monitor/like-than-eposm12.2 sound... if i get it by picking floorstanders i'll go for i.e. d18/28 .. else i wish i had the chance (which i dont) to audition d two with roksan k2...

tighter and faster bass , not muddy sound (that's what i dont like about m12) .... all-genre-like speaker ? will i get these by paying almost £2000 for ProAc ?

If you don't mind that warts'n all presentation, you could consider some Wiilson Bensech Arcs, although they'll be a bit over the 2k, unless you want to go 2nd hand..

I would urge you to listen to PMC DB1is. They are wonderfully clear, immensely detailed; they image and time as good as any in the sub-£1000 arena.

Wilson Benesch are briilliant speakers, but you would probably need to search the auction sites if you want to avoid paying silly money.

Don't get rid of the 12.2's too quickly, they're fantastic speakers for the money. I was auditioning stuff for about a year which cost more than £1000 above the Epos speakers and most of them were disappointing. Most of the bigger speakers sound slow by comparison. I liked the Spendor SA1's but ended up going for Wilson Benesch Square One's which are fast speakers and better the 12.2's but there are no massive gains to be had. If I was going for a second system the 12.2's would be top of the list.

That said I would be interested in the Proac D2 myself. The usual rule applies... demo!

I know this is a really old thread, but I sold my epos 12.2 's about 15 years ago, and regretted ever since. I have just bought myself a new second hand pair from ebay for £170 and I am really happy to have them back in my life
